Search engine giant Google today dedicated its doodle to geochemist Katsuko Saruhashi on her 98th birth anniversary. She was born on March 22, 1920, in Tokyo. The Japanese scientists known for her pioneering works inspired many to follow her footsteps. Among her notable works include her experiment on the way nuclear fallout was going in oceans. The scientists had won many awards for her achievements before retirement in the 1980s. She passed away on September 29, 2007, after suffering from pneumonia in Tokyo.
Yesterday, Google dedicated its doodle on Ustad Bismillah Khan on his 102nd birth anniversary. Born on March 21, in the family of musicians in Bihar, he almost single-handedly popularised the shahnai as the classical instrument not only in India but across the globe as well. Bismillah Khan won numerous awards which include Bharat Ratna (2001), Padma Vibhushan (1980), Padma Bhushan (1968), Padma Shri (1961), Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1956) among many others
It can safely be said that he and his shehnai were very synonyms to each other. The great musician had performed in Red Fort on the eve of India’s first Republic day on January 26, 1950. He passed away on August 21, 2006, in Varanasi due to cardiac arrest.

The day is celebrated with a piece of pie to honour the mathematical constant as to almost look like the tasty dessert. It symbolises ratio between a circle’s circumference to diameter, while constant is fundamental to numerous mathematical fields.
On February 1, the doodle had also honoured noted India writer Kamala Das. She had written on numerous issued related to women, child care and politics among others. She was born in Thrissur District of Kerala, on March 31, 1934. Her childhood was spent between Calcutta and ancestral home in Punnayurkulam.
